Sailor Moon - Manga - Dark Kingdom Arc

Let's talk Manga!

Boy howdy is it hard to find consistent references of sailor moon from the manga. After all, the manga itself has had four revisions in japan alone, and several English versions as well. Each has its own unique variations. So let's start with a sort of base-line. We'll be looking at Sailor Moon's original transformation in the first arc of the manga, and you can look forward to several additional posts regarding some of the unique off-shoot variations from this arc, which we won't cover here.

Let's get started!

This above is the cover for the new English Eternal version of the manga, but it'll give us a good sort of base-line for how Sailor Moon looks throughout the majority of the first manga arc.

Let's start at the top! This version of SM has blonde hair, with red odango covers outlined in white, and white wing barrettes in her hair. Her tiara changes ALOT this arc, so keep your eyes peeled for a separate post about that whole situation. We have a red choker here, and note that it has not only a gold moon, but also a pendant to match her transformation brooch. You can also see here that her earrings are white studs, with a star and then crescent moon dangle.

Moving on down, we have a dark blue collar with three gold stripes. This attaches to a red chest bow with her first transformation brooch.

Lets talk brooches! It's circular, with a five pointed star in the center, a crescent moon at the bottom, three pearls on each side of the moon, and then a colored orb at each point of the compass (colored to represent the four inner senshi). The original manga version can be seen above, with additional detailing on the moon portion. In subsequent revisions, it was simplified a bit. Notice that there is also a small sort of tear-drop shape at the top (what is this supposed to be?? Idek...)

Beneath the collar and bow is the typical white leotard. We see a below bust seam, and three arm-rolls at the shoulder (NOTE: often these arm rolls have gold highlights, so maybe they aren't strictly white...). The skirt is dark blue and matches the collar, and the bow in the back is red to match the front bow. The tails on the bow are thick and short. The gloves are elbow length and end in three red rolls that match the bows.

Almost there! While there are many variations of SM's boots, the typical design for this arc is knee height, red with white trim, upward pointed with gold crescent moons at the front. The heel is low and blocky.

Whew!! Thanks for sticking with me! Did I miss anything? What  do YOU think about Sailor Moon's original fuku design in the manga? And what do you want to see next?? Leave me some comments below, and stay tuned!!
